Narracomm has served emerging technology since 2012.

Websites, digital marketing and communications — for companies building things the market hasn’t caught up with yet.

Narracomm is a digital marketing and communications firm founded by Justin Ray in 2012 to serve the emerging technology space. We build and administer websites, handle digital marketing end to end, and run communications and media relations. Our work spans blockchain, fintech, artificial intelligence, biotechnology and robotics — on budgets from modest to multi-million dollar campaigns.

Why 2012 is the number that matters

Anyone can claim expertise in an emerging sector. The question worth asking is what they were doing during the last downturn.

We started serving blockchain companies when the sector was mostly forums and a handful of exchanges. We were still working when the 2017 wave arrived, and still working after most of the agencies that arrived with it had closed. The same pattern is running again in AI: a great many firms have discovered deep expertise in a field they encountered eighteen months ago.

Having worked through more than one full cycle mainly teaches you one thing — the difference between a technology and a story about a technology.

That distinction is the whole job. It’s what stops a launch being built on a claim that won’t survive contact with a technical journalist. It’s what tells you whether a slow quarter is a market condition or a positioning problem. And it’s why clients who came to us in one cycle are often still here in the next.

What we actually do

Three disciplines that are usually bought from three different suppliers — which is precisely why they so often contradict each other.

01Build
We build and administer websites. We run them, maintain them, and stay responsible for them after launch, which is the part most agencies quietly hand back to you.
02Market
Digital marketing in full: search, paid media, content, email, analytics. Fourteen years of it, across budgets that ranged from almost nothing to multi-million dollar campaigns.
03Communicate
Media relations, messaging and crisis communications. Placements have included Forbes, Fortune, Reuters, the AP, VICE, and many more.

They work better together. The message a founder gives a reporter, the copy on the homepage, and the ad running against a competitor’s brand name should be the same argument. When three suppliers own those three surfaces, they never quite are — and the gap is visible to exactly the people you’re trying to convince.

And others. Media relations in emerging technology is less about a contact list than about being able to explain a technical product to a journalist in terms their editor will accept. That translation is the hard part, and it’s most of what we’re doing.

The common thread isn’t the technology — it’s the situation. Every one of these clients was explaining something the market didn’t yet have a category for. That’s a communications problem before it’s a marketing problem, and treating it as the second when it’s the first is the most expensive mistake in the sector.

Who you’ll be working with

Justin Ray

Founder

Justin founded Narracomm in 2012 and has worked across every part of digital marketing, communications and advertising since — building the sites, running the campaigns, writing the pitches, and making the calls when something went wrong at an inconvenient hour.

That matters for a practical reason: when you talk to Narracomm, you’re talking to the person who will do the work and who has done it before, rather than to a business development lead who will introduce you to a team later.

[[OPTIONAL: one or two sentences of personal background — where you came from, what pulled you into emerging tech in 2012. Origin stories convert. Keep it to two sentences.]]

How we work

  • Founder-led. The person you meet is the person doing the work. No account layer, no handoff to juniors after signing.
  • Straight answers. Including the ones that cost us. If a channel isn’t working, we’ll say so before you notice.
  • Budget-appropriate. A small budget isn’t a scaled-down large one — it’s a different discipline. Having run both for years is what makes it possible to tell you when spending more genuinely won’t help.
  • Built to be handed over. Sites, systems and documentation you own. If you ever leave, you leave with something that works.

Things we’d rather say now than after you’ve paid

  • If you need one press release, don’t hire a firm. You need a freelancer and an afternoon. We’ll point you at one.
  • Marketing accelerates whatever is already true. If the product isn’t ready, spend will make the problem arrive faster and louder. We’d rather tell you that in the first call than in the third month.
  • Media coverage isn’t a growth strategy. It’s excellent for credibility, hiring and fundraising, and unreliable for pipeline. Anyone promising you otherwise is selling something.
  • Nobody can guarantee placement. Anyone who does is either lying or paying for it and calling it earned.

Is this a fit?

✔ Probably yes if

  • You’re building something that needs explaining before it can be sold
  • You want marketing, comms and the website to stop contradicting each other
  • You’d rather have one accountable partner than three suppliers
  • You want to be told the truth about what’s working
✕ Probably not if

  • You want guaranteed placements or guaranteed rankings
  • You’re looking for the cheapest possible execution of a fixed brief
  • You need a large team on site rather than a senior operator
  • The product isn’t built yet and the plan is to market first

Why we publish everything

The guides on this site — the prompt systems, the crisis frameworks, the strategy breakdowns — aren’t lead magnets dressed as expertise. They’re the actual method, published in full, including the parts a client would pay for.

That’s a deliberate trade. Some readers will take the frameworks and run them in-house, which is a fine outcome and the point of writing them. Others will read them, recognise the amount of judgement involved in applying them under pressure, and get in touch. Both are better than a site that asks you to take our word for it.

You can judge how we think before you ever speak to us. That’s the intent.

Let’s talk about what you’re building.

Tell us what you’re working on and where it’s stuck. If we’re not the right fit, we’ll say so and point you somewhere better.

Common questions

What is Narracomm?

Narracomm is a digital marketing and communications firm founded by Justin Ray in 2012 to serve companies in emerging technology. We build and administer websites, handle digital marketing end to end, and run communications and media relations. Our work spans blockchain, fintech, artificial intelligence, biotechnology and robotics, on budgets ranging from modest to multi-million dollar campaigns.

Who founded Narracomm?

Narracomm was founded by Justin Ray in 2012. He has worked across every part of digital marketing, communications and advertising, and the firm has served clients in emerging technology continuously since then, through multiple market cycles.

What industries does Narracomm work in?

Emerging technology, primarily blockchain and digital assets, fintech, artificial intelligence, biotechnology and robotics. The common thread is that clients are building something the market does not yet fully understand, which is a communications problem before it is a marketing one.

What services does Narracomm offer?

Three areas that are usually bought separately and work better together. We build and administer websites. We handle digital marketing, including search, paid media, content and email. And we run communications, including media relations, messaging, and crisis communications. Clients can engage any one of the three, though most of the value comes from running them as one operation.

Where has Narracomm placed clients in the press?

Placements include Forbes, Fortune, Reuters, the Associated Press and VICE, among others. Media relations in emerging technology depends less on a contact list than on being able to explain a technical product to a journalist in terms their editor will accept, which is the part most firms find difficult.

What size budgets does Narracomm work with?

From limited budgets to multi-million dollar campaigns. Small budgets are not a lesser version of large ones, they are a different discipline, and running both over many years is what makes it possible to tell a client honestly when spending more would not help.
