Muse tools head to business buyers as Desai reports to Zuckerberg and MongoDB brings Ittycheria back
Meta on Monday created a new business line to sell its AI stack to companies and hired MongoDB Inc. chief Chirantan “CJ” Desai to run it.
The unit is called Meta Enterprise Platform. Desai joins as chief enterprise platform officer and reports to founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg. MongoDB said Desai stepped down as president and CEO effective immediately. Its board put Dev Ittycheria, who ran the database company from 2014 to 2025, back in the job on an interim basis and opened a search for a permanent successor.
Zuckerberg framed the move as a new pillar, not a side project. Meta already reaches billions of people and, he said, helps hundreds of millions of businesses find customers.

The first products are not a blank sheet. Meta said it will start by putting its existing stack in front of businesses and developers: the Muse agent, Meta Business Agent, the Muse API, Muse Code, “and more.” No list price. No general-availability date. No named design customers in the post.

Desai’s résumé is the enterprise half of the pitch. He was CEO and president of MongoDB. Before that he led product and engineering at Cloudflare. He spent nearly eight years at ServiceNow, including a stretch as president and COO. Zuckerberg called out AI, infrastructure, business applications and security as the through-line.
Desai’s own note was shorter and pointed at deployment, not consumer chat.

He tied the security claim to work Meta has already published on Muse.
“As with Muse, security and privacy are built into Meta’s enterprise products from the outset.”

Across the street, MongoDB had to explain a CEO exit measured in months, not years. Ittycheria’s earlier run, the company said, took annual revenue from about $35 million to more than $2.3 billion. MongoDB reaffirmed the third-quarter and full-year fiscal 2027 outlook it gave on Sept. 1. An executive search firm is on the permanent-CEO brief.
“MongoDB’s business is strong, and there is no better person to take on the role of President and CEO in the interim than Dev Ittycheria,” said Tom Killalea, chairman of the board of directors. “He knows this company deeply, has remained an involved and active executive board member over the past year, and will step in immediately to ensure a seamless transition.”

For a buyer, the open items sit in the usual places. What ships first. What it costs. Whether Muse’s consumer-agent posture and Meta’s advertising data machine can be fenced the way a bank or a hospital will demand. Desai said those controls are in from the start. The post does not say who audits that.
Developers get a named surface: Muse API and Muse Code, plus the two agents. Integration work can start against those names. Contract language cannot. Not yet.
Meta’s consumer apps still pay the bills. This filing is the company saying the next growth line is software other firms run on their own work, sold by someone who has shipped that kind of stack before. The hire is the proof point. The product calendar is not.
