Huawei rebrands XMAGE as 华为睿影 XMAGE and ties Mate 90 Pro Max 典藏版 and Mate 90 RS 非凡大师 to Kirin 9050 Pro, with a lab claim of 37% and 62% imaging gains

The color and skin-tone deltas are Huawei-laboratory claims on a named 16G test unit, not an independent result, and the first logic-folding τ chip is specified only for two top SKUs.

IN BRIEF: On 1 October 2026, Huawei Device Co., Ltd. said it had upgraded XMAGE to 华为睿影 XMAGE, that the Kirin 9050 Pro logic-folding τ chip equips the HUAWEI Mate 90 Pro Max 典藏版 and HUAWEI Mate 90 RS 非凡大师, and that Huawei laboratories measured 37% higher global color accuracy and 62% higher portrait skin-tone accuracy on a HUAWEI Mate 90 Pro Max 16G unit versus the HUAWEI Mate 80 Pro Max.

Huawei Device Co., Ltd. used the 1 October 2026 consumer notice to move its imaging brand into what it calls a third stage, renaming XMAGE as 华为睿影 XMAGE and anchoring the refresh to a new compute claim and a new camera module. The consequential hardware line is narrow. The company identifies the Kirin 9050 Pro as its first logic-folding τ chip and states that the HUAWEI Mate 90 Pro Max 典藏版 and the HUAWEI Mate 90 RS 非凡大师 carry it. It does not, in this notice, extend that chip designation to the rest of the Mate 90 series.

The announcement was made at the HUAWEI Mate 90 series and full-scenario product launch by 余承东, named in full as 华为常务董事、产品投资评审委员会主任、终端 BG 董事长. He set the new line as “睿观万象,聚光成影” and said: “‘睿’既是技术创新赋予影像的智慧,也包含影像背后对人和生活的理解。我们将持续投入影像技术创新,让更多人能够自由地记录和表达,也让 XMAGE 成为连接全球创作者的影像文化品牌.” The quote is a brand commitment, not a performance specification. It does not attach a date, a shipment volume, or a measured result to the chip.

On the chip itself, the notice says the Kirin 9050 Pro supplies on-device compute for 华为睿影 XMAGE through a tenth-generation ISP and a new Da Vinci-architecture NPU, and that both are substantially faster. No percentage is given for ISP throughput, NPU throughput, transistor density, or inter-die bandwidth. The only quantified imaging gains sit in a different paragraph, attached to the camera rather than to the chip by name. The latest Mate 90 series, the notice says, uses a third-generation Red Maple original-color camera, and Huawei for the first time applies an infrared optical coating across all focal lengths. Global color accuracy is said to rise 37 percent. Portrait skin-tone restoration accuracy is said to rise 62 percent. Footnote 3 limits the comparison: the test unit is the HUAWEI Mate 90 Pro Max 16G version, the baseline is the HUAWEI Mate 80 Pro Max, and the data come from Huawei laboratories. The baseline’s memory configuration is not stated. No outside laboratory, sample size, chart, or illuminant is named.

That split matters for anyone pricing the claim. A buyer reading the headline can treat the 37 percent and 62 percent figures as properties of the Kirin 9050 Pro. The notice does not say that. It places the chip on two SKUs and places the measured deltas on a Mate 90 Pro Max 16G camera test against the prior Pro Max. The same notice adds portrait modes — original portrait, soft-light portrait, brilliant fireworks, and starburst — under the new 睿影红枫人像 label, again without a separate measured score.

The second product in the notice is the 华为睿影 Z10 module camera, described as a new class of mobile imaging device. Stated optics are a 1-inch 50-megapixel RYYB sensor, continuous optical zoom from 24 mm to 240 mm, and a maximum aperture range of F2.0 to F4.5. Footnote 2 says its still and video functions require pairing with the HUAWEI Mate 90 Pro Max 典藏版 and the HUAWEI Mate 90 RS 非凡大师. The notice then says the new-generation Mate 90 Pro Max 典藏版 and the Z10 together form a mobile creation platform. It does not publish a price, a ship date, or a unit count for either the phones or the module.

The cultural half of the notice is more concrete on history than on the chip. Huawei says the imaging contest, founded in 2017 and now in its tenth edition, has received more than 6.5 million submissions from more than 170 countries and regions, and calls it one of the largest and most influential mobile-imaging contests. The 2026 award ceremony and tenth-anniversary exhibition, themed 「温暖共生」, is set for 11–15 November 2026 at the Grand Palais in Paris. A derived touring exhibition is said to have reached 20 cities, including Paris, Shenzhen, Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Dubai. A creator program is said to have gathered more than 200 certified photographers and held more than 500 events. A student prize has run for four consecutive years since 2021, and a youth-creator program was launched in both 2025 and 2026. None of those figures is tied to the Kirin 9050 Pro or to the color-accuracy test.

For founder reputation, the notice does what a flagship imaging launch is built to do: it puts 余承东’s name on a brand reset and on a claim that Huawei’s own stack — chip, ISP, NPU, coating, module — now closes the loop. For category narrative, the operative phrase is the company’s own, “逻辑折叠 τ 芯片,” offered as the compute base of the third imaging stage. For investor scrutiny, the gap is methodological. The only numeric imaging result is a Huawei-laboratory comparison of one named 16G configuration against an underspecified Mate 80 Pro Max, and the chip said to enable the new stack is footnoted to two SKUs. Enterprise and professional buyers who treat the Z10 as a field camera have a narrower fact: the notice says its photo and video functions depend on those same two handsets.

WHY IT MATTERS: The briefable fact is a brand reset plus a restricted chip claim, not a verified imaging leap. Until the 37 percent and 62 percent figures are reproduced outside Huawei laboratories, they remain a vendor test of the Mate 90 Pro Max 16G against the Mate 80 Pro Max, while Kirin 9050 Pro availability in this notice stops at the 典藏版 and the 非凡大师.
